TRIPS is Rockland County's paratransit bus service for residents with physical, developmental or mental disabilities, and senior citizens who are aged 60 or over. In each of these cases, TRIPS service is reserved for individuals who are unable to use municipal, fixed-route bus service.
TRIPS provides shared-ride, public paratransit bus service by appointment. TRIPS passengers may or may not go directly to their destinations and there may be several pick-ups and drop-offs along the way. TRIPS operates only within Rockland County. TRIPS stands for Transportation Resources, Intra-county, for Physically disabled and Senior citizens.
The ADA TRIPS service is Rockland County’s complementary, curb-to-curb, origin-destination shared-ride, demand-responsive public paratransit bus service required for municipal, fixed-route bus services. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), municipal transit agencies like the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation are required to provide curb-to-curb, origin-to-destination demand-responsive public paratransit service that “mirrors” its fixed-route service in terms of service operating hours and areas. ADA TRIPS is only for those persons who do not have the functional capability to ride the municipal, fixed-route buses (ie: TOR). ADA TRIPS service is designed to meet the ADA service criteria established by the Federal government.
ADA TRIPS is committed to making reasonable modifications/accommodations to policies, practices and procedures to ensure customer access to the service. Once certified for the ADA TRIPS service, customers may request a reasonable modification pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act when requesting their ride, or in advance by contacting TRIPS.

The Regular TRIPS service is a curb-to-curb, shared-ride public paratransit bus service for Rockland County residents with physical, developmental or mental disabilities, or senior citizens aged 60 or over, who find it difficult or impossible to use municipal, fixed-route bus service. Rockland County offers the Regular TRIPS service as a courtesy for eligible Rockland County senior citizens and residents with disabilities who may not qualify for the ADA TRIPS level of service.
For further details on the Regular TRIPS service, view TIPS for Regular TRIPS. To apply for Regular TRIPS, complete the Regular TRIPS Service Application for residents with disabilities or the Regular TRIPS Service Application for Seniors, or contact Yahaira Roman at the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation: (845) 364-2065 for assistance.
TRIPS is unique among public paratransit services because it offers service beyond what is required under Federal ADA regulations. No other paratransit service in our region offers paratransit service for residents who do not meet ADA requirements.
The ADA TRIPS service operates as Rockland County's required "complement" to the municipal, fixed-route bus service (such as TOR). ADA TRIPS is for certified individuals who, because of a disability, are unable to utilize the regular, fixed-route bus system. Riders must be certified by TRIPS or an approved certifying agency as an ADA paratransit customer. ADA TRIPS operates during the same hours as municipal fixed-route bus service, but only within 3/4 mile of one of the municipal, fixed-route bus routes. ADA TRIPS customers are given priority for ride requests and ADA TRIPS operates within 3/4 mile of municipal, fixed-route bus services and during the same operating hours as those services.
The Regular TRIPS service has less strict eligibility requirements than ADA TRIPS and provides service beyond the 3/4 miles, but only on a space-available basis and during fixed operating hours. Regular TRIPS operates from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday - Friday with limited service on Saturdays from 8 am to 5 pm. The Regular TRIPS service is for any Rockland resident with a disability that may not qualify for the ADA TRIPS service, or who is 60 years of age or older. Regular TRIPS also enables ADA TRIPS riders to be provided with rides that may not qualify under ADA TRIPS alone.
All TRIPS vehicles are wheelchair accessible. For information about the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation's Title VI Civil Rights complaint process or Title II ADA complaint process, please see our Civil Rights & ADA page.
