Lower Hudson Transit Link
New NY Bridge Project
The County of Rockland was actively involved in several aspects of the State project to construct the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the new bridge that replaced the Tappan Zee Bridge in 2018. As a member of the Selection Committee that recommended the winning proposal for the bridge design, the County was able to ensure that Rockland residents and our region's travelers received the best value option.
The County also played a role in ensuring that the bridge would be aesthetically pleasing through its membership on the project's Visual Quality Panel. In addition, the County was a member of the bridge project's Mass Transit Task Force, which explored ways to ensure that public transportation is incorporated into the final bridge project.
Following the completion of the Mass Transit Task Force activities, the State announced plans for a program of projects that would be carried out in tandem with a new bus service. The Lower Hudson Transit Link Program included several improvement and technology projects that paved the way for the new Hudson Link bus service, which replaced the existing TAPPAN ZEExpress service at bridge opening.
