The Climate Smart Communities(CSC) Certification program, provided by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), offers a framework to guide local climate actions and recognize sustainability leadership. Participation is free and voluntary, with communities earning bronze or silver certification. Rockland County is actively pursuing CSC Certification.
Rockland County is currently in the process of creating its Climate Smart Communities (CSC) Task Force. The CSC Task Force will support the County's Climate Smart Certification efforts by advising on climate initiatives, collaborating with the Sustainability Coordinator, documenting certification actions, and promoting energy-efficient upgrades, renewable energy, and climate risk mitigation projects.
