Special Operations Teams

The Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services Special Operations Teams provides highly trained personnel and specialized resources to support emergency incidents throughout Rockland County. Our teams are composed of dedicated firefighters, emergency responders, and technical specialists from agencies across the county who work together to protect lives, property, and the environment.

The Special Operations Team consists of two primary disciplines:

  • Rockland County Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Team
  • Rockland County Technical Rescue Team

These teams respond to complex incidents that require advanced training, specialized equipment, and coordinated regional response capabilities.


Rockland County Hazardous Materials Team

The Rockland County Hazardous Materials Team is responsible for responding to incidents involving the release, threatened release, or suspected presence of hazardous substances.

Our highly trained technicians are equipped to identify, monitor, contain, and mitigate hazardous materials incidents while protecting the public, responders, and the environment.

Training and Certifications

Team members receive extensive training that meets and exceeds state and federal standards, including:

  • Hazardous Materials Technician Certification
  • Advanced Chemical Response Training
  • Incident Command System (ICS)
  • Personal Protective Equipment Operations
  • Air Monitoring and Detection Technologies
  • Decontamination Operations

Rockland County Technical Rescue Team

The Rockland County Technical Rescue Team provides advanced rescue capabilities for incidents that exceed the scope of traditional firefighting and rescue operations. Our technicians are trained to safely operate in challenging environments and perform rescues under complex and hazardous conditions.

Confined Space Rescue

Structural Collapse Rescue

  • Search and rescue in compromised structures

Trench Rescue

  • Victim location and rescue

Training Excellence

Technical Rescue Team members undergo rigorous and continuous training in:

  • Rope Rescue Technician
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Structural Collapse Rescue
  • Trench Rescue Operations
  • Search and Rescue Techniques
  • Incident Command and Team Coordination

Applicants must:

  • Be an active member of a Rockland County fire department or emergency services agency
  • Maintain good standing within their organization
  • Demonstrate commitment to training and operational readiness
  • Successfully complete required team training and evaluations
