RCDOH Hosting Free Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) Vaccination Clinics Thursday Nov. 20th & Friday Nov. 21st

RCDOH Mobile Vaccination Van Will Also Provide Flu Shots

NEW CITY, NY,- The Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) announces two mobile vaccination clinics for residents in need of a measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccination.

Free measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccines will be offered, in addition to flu vaccines, to residents six months and older at the RCDOH mobile vaccination van:

Where: Evergreen Kosher Market, 59 Route 59 in Monsey (in the parking lot)
When: Thursday (today), Nov. 20th, 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. & Friday, Nov. 21st, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

MMR vaccines are available at local health care providers, by calling a local federally qualified health center, such as Refuah Health or Sun River Health, or by calling the RCDOH at 845-364-2497 or 845-364-2520.

RCDOH reminds families the single best way to prevent measles is to be vaccinated. Families should ensure their loved ones are up to date and/or speak with their doctor if they are not. If you are not immune or unsure of your immune status, it is best to get the MMR vaccination, unless you are pregnant or immunocompromised.

If you have symptoms consistent with measles or have any symptoms and were exposed, contact your healthcare provider, a local clinic, or a local emergency department before seeking care. This will help to prevent others at these facilities from being exposed to illness.

Symptoms include:

  • fever
  • rash
  • cough
  • conjunctivitis (red, watery eyes)
  • runny nose

Symptoms usually appear 10-12 days after exposure, but may appear as early as 7 days, and as late as 21 days after exposure. Severe illness and complications like pneumonia, encephalitis, and death can occur in unvaccinated people.

For more information, visit the Rockland County Department of Healthand the New York State Department of Health measles webpages. To get your vaccine, visit www.vaccine.gov.
