County Participating in Operation Green Light, Illuminating Buildings Nov 4-11 for Veterans
County Veterans Service Agency Giving Away Green Lightbulbs (details below)
New City, NY – In tribute to veterans, the County of Rockland’s Allison-Parris Building on New Hempstead Rd. in New City and Building A in the Pomona Health Complex off Route 45 is lit green for the fifth anniversary of Operation Green Light from November 4th through the 11th.
Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and their families, and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.
By shining a green light, the County of Rockland is showing residents our veterans are seen, appreciated, and supported. Operation Green Light is a collaboration between the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), National Association of Counties (NACo), the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO) and the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency.
“We thank all our veterans for something often taken for granted - our freedom,” said County Executive Ed Day. “For all who chose to serve and protect our liberties, we hope our participation in Operation Green Light serves as a reminder that we do not take your sacrifice lightly.”
“I think that anytime our veterans can feel like they are not alone it is a powerful and worthwhile message,” said Susan Branam, Director of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency (VSA). “My hope is that all the County is lit up with green lights this Veterans Day week, so the message is loud and clear that this community supports our heroes.” Residents are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb.
The Rockland County VSA is giving away green light bulbs on Thursday October 30th & Friday October 31st - while supplies last - to those who’d like to participate. The office is located at 20 Squadron Blvd., Suite 101, New City, NY.
It is recommended to change an exterior light when participating so neighbors and passersby can see. By shining a green light, participants are letting veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
