New City, NY - Rockland County Executive Ed Day and the Division of Environmental Resources presented the 28th County Executive’s Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award to Joanne Louis-Paul during a ceremony at Kennedy Dells County Park in New City.

“I am thrilled to honor Joanne Louis-Paul who not only advocates for sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions, but also brings people together in the process,” said County Executive Ed Day. “Joanne is an ardent advocate for sustainability, yet she approaches her work with warmth, respect, and a genuine spirit of collaboration. She knows that lasting progress is made not through division, but through finding solutions that benefit the greater good.”

Joanne just completed work with the Sustainable Hudson Valley as an Environmental Justice Fellow. She has been a strong voice in support of rejuvenating an old bike trail in the Town of Ramapo—a project that would provide both recreational opportunities and alternative travel solutions. A member of the Rockland County Environmental Management Council and Climate Smart Communities Task Force, Joanne volunteers for numerous causes across the Hudson Valley, always giving her time and energy for the public good.

“Joanne’s efforts remind us that true leadership is not only about ideas but also about building bridges with others to make those ideas a reality,” concluded County Executive Day. “It is only through the efforts like her that Rockland County remains the beautiful place that we all cherish.”

A Serviceberry tree was planted in her honor at Kennedy Dells County Park.

Outstanding Environmental Volunteer Award Winner Joanne Louis-Paul was grateful for the recognition saying in part, “I am honored to have been selected for this prestigious award and feel deeply blessed that my dream of ‘becoming a tree’ is coming true.”
