Health Department Celebrates
World Breastfeeding Week August 1 – 7
Join us for Live, Love, Latch! Picnic on Friday, August 1

New City, NY, - Join the free annual “Live, Love, Latch! BYO Basket Picnic” in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week on Friday, August 1st from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Haverstraw Bay Park, located at 21 Gagan Rd, Haverstraw, NY. The picnic will be held rain or shine under the pavilion. This event is more than just a celebration; it’s a time to share experiences and learn interesting facts about lactation and human milk feeding, all while making it fun for families.
Co-hosted by Rockland County Lactation Coalition partners, including Rockland County Department of Health, La Leche League of Rockland County, The New York Milk Bank, Lower Hudson Valley Perinatal Network, and Montefiore Nyack Hospital. This family-friendly, bring-your-own-basket picnic lunch welcomes everyone for an afternoon of fun, learning, and community connection.
Enjoy a wide variety of fun activities such as gentle movement, trivia games, gift giveaways, free raffle prizes, and healthy light refreshments plus educational information centered around the importance of human milk feeding. For more details on the picnic and registration, visit https://flow.page/rocklandlivelovelatch2025. For questions, contact the La Leche League of Rockland County at ClarkstownLLL@gmail.com.
“Human milk is uniquely tailored to meet infants’ nutritional and developmental needs,” said Rockland County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Leahy. “It contains essential antibodies that strengthen babies' immune systems, helping protect against illnesses like ear infections and Gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, as well as long-term health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, asthma, and childhood obesity.”
The Rockland County Department of Health can assist your worksite, childcare center/home, or pediatric or obstetric practice in becoming lactation friendly. Our free services include lactation training for staff, assistance with setting up lactation rooms, and providing educational materials, including the New York State labor and civil rights laws that protect lactating individuals.
