County Launches Statewide No Hate NY License Plate and No Hate NY Fund

New City, NY – County Executive Ed Day and County Human Rights Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe are proud to announce the statewide launch of the No Hate NY License Plate and the No Hate NY Fund, an initiative to combat hate and promote unity across New York State.

Human Rights Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe launched the idea in the Summer of 2023, at which point the Human Rights Commissioner Chiimbwe, County Attorney Thomas Humbach, and Public Policy & Intergovernmental Relations Director Stephen Powers began meeting with Senator Bill Weber and his staff to work with them on drafting the legislation.

Once passed by New York State, the No Hate NY License Plate will become available through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and allow residents to visibly show their commitment to standing against hate. Proceeds from the plate will go toward the No Hate NY Fund, which will support anti-hate education, awareness campaigns, and programs aimed at advancing human rights and fostering inclusivity around anti-hate education statewide.

“This initiative is a powerful reminder that hate has no place in Rockland County or anywhere in New York State,” said Rockland County Executive Ed Day. “What started as an idea here in Rockland has now grown into a statewide movement that will support education, awareness, and action against hate. We are proud to have put forward this idea, working with Senator Weber since 2023, to make this happen, and are grateful to our lawmakers bringing this initiative to life in Albany.”

Rockland County has long been at the forefront of efforts to combat hate and discrimination, and the launch of this initiative further strengthens its commitment to ensuring that all residents feel safe and respected.

“The No Hate NY License Plate and Fund are more than symbolic; they are tangible steps in the fight against hate,” said Rockland County Human Rights Commissioner Spencer Chiimbwe. “This initiative, born out of Rockland County, will now provide resources statewide to promote understanding, tolerance, and respect for all communities. We encourage all New Yorkers to support this effort and make a statement against hate.”

The County again thanks Senator Weber and Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar who are pushing to make Rockland’s No Hate NY initiative A02455/S01934 a reality. This effort reflects the ongoing dedication of both local and state leaders to fostering a more inclusive New York.
