County Lights Up Blue For Parkinson's
Deputy County Executive Mike Hoblin Honored For World Parkinson’s Day

New City, NY – To commemorate World Parkinson's Day, the County of Rockland’s Allison Paris Building on New Hempstead Rd. in New City is lit blue for the Parkinson’s “Spark the Night” event happening worldwide on April 11th.

The “Spark the Night” campaign encourages buildings, bridges, and iconic landmarks to be lit up blue symbolizing to collectively illuminate a symbolic path towards awareness, understanding, and hope. The County of Rockland was lit blue from April 9^th to the 11^th for the initiative.

“By shining a blue light, my administration is showing residents we acknowledge the battle those with Parkinson's are facing,” said County Executive Ed Day. “We hope our participation in “Spark the Night” raises awareness of Parkinson's Disease which can profoundly alter lives and robs individuals of their independence, livelihoods, and sense of self.”

Deputy County Executive Mike Hoblin, who participated on a recent Parkinson's Panel alongside the Michael J. Fox Foundation and community members was honored on April 11^th by the Parkinson's Wellness Project (PWP), a non-profit that promotes better awareness, education, and social interaction for people with Parkinson’s.

“As a son and caregiver for my father who had Parkinson’s, I think it is important for those affected to have a voice,” said Mike Hoblin, Deputy County Executive. “I think that anytime our residents can feel like they are heard and not alone is a powerful and worthwhile message. I appreciate the hard work being done by the Parkinson's Wellness Project to shed light on this illness and push for a cure.”  

Legislator Harriet Cornell was also honored for her support of PWP. Legislator Aney Paul accepted the award on her behalf.
