Regarding Election Bills A04282 & S3505B

"I once again implore Governor Kathy Hochul to veto bills A04282 and S3505B, as I did in letters back in June and August, for what is clearly an attack on local elections.

No money will be saved by forcing local elections to occur only in even years, as this bill wants to do, rather local races will be overshadowed by State and Federal elections. In the already crowded newsroom, there will be no room at all for local candidates to express their wishes and desires for office and no time for voters to learn about the Federal, State, and local races, all in the same election season.

Local governments are the most responsive and responsible to the everyday person and play a vital governance role for drinking water, social services, sewage, zoning, schools, roads, parks, police, courts, jails, trash disposal — and more.

It would be incredibly insulting to make such a drastic decision, impacting local elections statewide, without any formal input from taxpayers."
