National Public Health Week, April 6-12, 2026

NEW CITY, NY, - The Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) joins health agencies across the country to celebrate National Public Health Week from Monday, April 6 to Sunday, April 12, 2026.

This year’s theme, “Ready. Set. Action!”, reminds us how public health improves our daily lives, protects our families, extends life spans, and strengthens communities. This week is also a time to commend the public health professionals who serve our community every day, and to support the policies and actions that help everyone stay healthy in Rockland County.

“Public health is a part of our everyday lives, from safe food and clean water to disease prevention and emergency preparedness,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. “Together with the support of our residents, our dedicated public health workforce continues to keep Rocklanders safe and informed about public health threats, communicable and chronic diseases, and environmental concerns. I encourage everyone in Rockland to take steps toward healthier lives.”

The RCDOH plays a critical role in protecting and promoting community health. The services and programs that the Department of Health offers are designed to address various aspects of public health, including:

  • Community Health Services: Health education, disease prevention, and outreach to help residents stay healthy.
  • Communicable Disease Monitoring and Immunization Programs: Offers vaccines to prevent serious illness and tracks the spread of diseases.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Planning and response for public health emergencies and natural disasters.
  • Environmental Health: Inspections to keep food, water, homes, and neighborhoods safe.
  • Maternal and Child Health: Programs that support family planning, healthy pregnancies, child development, and early care.
  • Chronic Disease Prevention: Activities that promote healthy eating, physical activity, and wellness.
  • Lead Poisoning Prevention: Education and home inspections to protect children from lead exposure.

During National Public Health Week, the RCDOH encourages residents to learn more about programs and services offered by the RCDOH. Visit www.nphw.org/ for more information about National Public Health Week.
