Rockland County Department of Health Awarded $85,000 to Support Women, Infants & Children Program

NEW CITY, NY, - The Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) has received an $85,000 award for its Fresh Start: WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Access and Nutrition Equity Program, that provides nutrition education to low-income families in the County.

The Fresh Start: WIC Access and Nutrition Equity Program aims to address barriers to access and increase consumption of fruits and vegetables. With this funding provided by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, RCDOH will be able to enhance services by hiring more staff who will provide nutrition education to low-income families and promote local farmers’ markets.

The Rockland WIC program currently serves over 20,000 women, infants, and children through four locations in the County including Haverstraw, Monsey, New Square, and Spring Valley.

The funding will last for one year, from January 1 to December 31, 2026, with potential eligibility for continued funding in future years.

“We are grateful to the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for this award,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. “This funding will help young families in the RCDOH WIC program to improve their overall health.”
