Principal Clerk (Spanish-Speaking) (Nanuet Public Schools)

Job Description:

The Nanuet Union Free School District is seeking a Spanish-speaking candidate to work in the fast-paced main office at the George Miller Elementary School.

The work is performed under the general supervision of an administrator and work guidance may be provided to others. The work requires an understanding of the complete clerical process from an administrative function. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  Opens and sorts mail; Reviews and distributes e-mails and responds to general inquiries; Prepares, coordinates and maintains a variety of student reports, records and data; Sets up appointments and meetings; Interacts with teachers, staff, students and parents/guardians; Identifies office issues and resolves problems of a moderate to complex nature.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four (4) years of paid office clerical or business work experience, at least one (1) year of which involved supervisory and/or non-routine duties.

1. Additional qualifying paid work experience or any academic, technical or vocational training may be substituted for schooling on a year-for-year basis.

2. An Associate’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of the required general paid work experience.

3. A Bachelor’s degree or higher may be deemed fully qualifying.

4. Incumbents are expected to possess a Level II proficiency in Spanish (as defined by the Examinations Division of the State of New York Department of Civil Service) which requires that the incumbent: be able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social and professional topics not requiring specialized vocabulary; can discuss particular interests and special fields of competence in general terms with reasonable ease; possesses adequate comprehension to normal rate of speech; has good control of grammar and errors do not interfere with understanding; can read with understanding a standard newspaper, correspondence and official documents.

Other Requirements and Information:

  • Thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to understand and carry out moderately difficult oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others; ability to read, speak and understand Spanish; ability to provide work guidance to others; ability to use computer programs and applications.
  • Civil service examination requirements have been waived for this position as part of the NY HELPS Local program. Candidates must only meet the minimum qualifications for consideration.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits are competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:

  •  $48,886 - $53,408 Annual Salary  (Steps 1-3) (as of 6/5/2026)
  • 8:00am to 4:30pm (Summer hours: 8:00am to 3:00pm)
  • Full-Time - 12 months
  • Paid Holidays
  • New York State Pension
