The Rockland County Department of Highways, Engineering Division is seeking an Engineer II. The work is specialized diverse, and complex in nature.
This is professional engineering work of a complex nature involving responsibility for the performance of a variety of duties with respect to the planning, design and inspection of engineering projects. The work may be performed in the field or in an office setting. Develops and implements layout designs and technical plans for projects and also develops cost estimates and project timelines for construction. Researches and reviews engineering plans, reports and specifications prepared by engineers, land surveyors, architects and contractors. Answers inquiries from the public and construction personnel. Maintains records and statistics and prepares reports. The work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level administrator and work guidance may be provided to an Engineer I and lower-level technical and/or clerical employees.
Good knowledge of the principles, practices and terminology of engineering and construction methods and materials; good knowledge of design equipment and techniques as they apply to construction and the maintenance of structures and facilities. Good knowledge of engineering research, ability to perform inspections, and interpret engineering plans and specifications. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, prepare reports, correspondence and resolve problems. Also, performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and two (2) years of post-degree engineering experience.
NOTE: A Master’s degree or higher in Engineering may be substituted for one (1) year of required engineering experience.
Must have a valid Motor Vehicle Drivers’ License.

- NO Residency requirement for this position.
- This is a competitive position in Civil Service and reachability on an eligible list following a civil service examination would be a requirement for permanent appointment.
