Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, with profound consequences for patients, families, and society (Kessler et al., 2003; Malhi &Mann, 2018; World Health Organization, 2023). Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (CBT) are among the most effective and evidence-based psychological treatments for depression, offering outcomes comparable to pharmacotherapy and superior in preventing relapse (Cuijpers et al., 2013; Hollon et al.,2002; McGinn, 2000, Sanderson & McGinn, 2001). This presentation will provide clinicians with a practical overview of the most effective CBT strategies for depression, including behavioral activation, cognitive restructuring, and problem-solving therapy (Dimidjian et al., 2006; Jacobson et al., 1996; Nezu, 2004). Relapse-prevention approaches such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for individuals with recurrent depression in remission (Teasdale et al., 2000; Kuyken et al., 2016) will also be discussed. Clinical examples and case illustrations will demonstrate how these interventions can be flexibly applied to enhance patient functioning and recovery.
